KYC

Three checks before the wallet pays

The rs9 partner wallet unlocks for withdrawal only after KYC clears. PAN plus Aadhaar plus face match. The walk-through is below; the failure modes and the recovery paths sit on the same page.

A reader at a clean desk with a smartphone propped against a small lamp, working through the partner KYC flow under calm warm light.
Three checks

What KYC verifies

PAN

Permanent Account Number. The name on the PAN must match the name on the Aadhaar. Format: 5 letters, 4 digits, 1 letter.

Aadhaar

12-digit identity number. Verified via OTP to the registered mobile. The Aadhaar must be unmasked at the partner side.

Face match

A short selfie is matched against the Aadhaar photo and the partner account photo. The native camera is more reliable than the browser camera.

Failure modes

Four ways KYC stalls

FailureCauseRecovery
PAN / Aadhaar name mismatchName on PAN differs from AadhaarUpdate the Aadhaar or PAN at the issuing authority, then re-run KYC
Aadhaar OTP not receivedMobile number on Aadhaar is outdatedUpdate mobile at the Aadhaar centre, then re-run KYC

Withdrawal unlock

After KYC clears

Once KYC clears, the partner wallet unlocks for withdrawal. UPI is the fastest path: minutes for KYC-cleared accounts. IMPS is the fallback and Net Banking the slowest. The VIP tier sets the fee-free ceiling. The full settlement table is on /review/ and the UPI timing test on /news/upi-withdrawal-timing-test/.

KYC FAQ

Six questions after the failure modes

Does rs9 see my PAN or Aadhaar?
No. rs9 never sees the KYC documents. The partner verifies the documents on the partner side.
What is the most common failure?
A name mismatch between PAN and Aadhaar. Update either at the issuing authority, then re-run KYC.
Can I run KYC before the first deposit?
Yes. The partner lets you run KYC from the account settings page; doing so unlocks withdrawal on the first payout.
Why is my face match rejected?
Lighting, glasses or angle. Retake in daylight with no glasses and a straight-on angle. The native camera path is more reliable.
What if my PAN is already linked to another account?
Close the other account first, or escalate via /customer-care/ with both account references.
How long does KYC take?
Most clear within minutes. Manual review on edge cases (poor image quality, name variants) takes longer.

Clear KYC before the first withdrawal

PAN + Aadhaar + face match. The four failure modes above cover most stalls.

Failure modes

Four common KYC failure modes and what unlocks them

First, PAN name mismatch. The PAN card name and the bank account name must match character-for-character. A single space, a missing middle initial, or a transliteration difference is enough to fail the partner-side match. Fix by re-uploading the PAN image or by editing the bank account name on file.

Second, Aadhaar OTP timeout. The Aadhaar OTP is short-lived. If the OTP is not entered in time, the partner flow rejects the attempt and asks for a new OTP. Fix by retrying the Aadhaar step from the start.

Third, face match score below the partner threshold. The partner face-match engine compares the selfie to the Aadhaar photo. A face match score below threshold fails the flow. Fix by re-taking the selfie in better light, with no glasses or face mask.

Fourth, address mismatch on the bank account. The IFSC-linked bank branch and the KYC address must be in the same state. Fix by using a bank account whose branch is in the state on the KYC record.

Withdrawal unlock

Three checkpoints before the first withdrawal clears

Checkpoint one: PAN and Aadhaar verified on the partner side. Checkpoint two: face match score above the partner threshold. Checkpoint three: bank account verified via penny-drop or UPI handle match. Once all three checkpoints clear, the wallet is withdrawal-ready. The first withdrawal may include a partner-side hold check that adds up to 24 hours; subsequent withdrawals clear at the rail's headline speed.

KYC retention

How long the partner retains KYC documents

The partner retains KYC documents for the duration of the account plus the partner-published retention window after closure. The retention window is required by Indian KYC rules (PMLA, RBI KYC master direction). After the retention window, the partner deletes the KYC documents from the partner-side store. The reader can request an earlier deletion via the partner in-app Help screen; the partner-side team reviews the request against the partner's legal obligations.
